Some people are making fun of a man who posted a TikTok showing deer running away from a mysterious white animal, saying it’s obvious what the animal is. But is it really as simple as the people in the comments section suggest? The man, Matt Hinson, claims even the experts believe it’s some sort of hybrid animal that they can’t quite identify for certain.

Some people claim Hinson’s viral video, which has a text overlay that reads “what is this?” in reference to the mystery animal that appears onscreen, is “rage bait,” meaning it’s purposefully trying to make people angry or frustrated in order to increase a post’s engagement, comments, and overall reach.
My opinion after reading through the comments section, including Hinson’s own replies to people’s comments in which he provided additional information, is that he really was trying to figure out what the animal is, and he never believed it was as straightforward as people said it was.

Hinson stated in several follow-up comments that a local wolf sanctuary reached out to him after his video blew up online, suggesting the animal might some sort of wolf-dog hybrid. (The post has a location tag for St. Augustine, Florida.) He also told folks that subject experts were on the case and that the streets around his home were shut down as authorities searched for the animal, just in case.
At one point, he said in a comment reply: “Apparently one of the neighbors had a hybrid, and he is believed to be the owner of the dog that is running amok.” So . . . case closed, maybe?
